May Five Things // From The Inspired Abode

We’re back with this month’s edition of Five Things! While the past few months have seemed to drag on, May is flying by! We have a feeling it’s the perfect spring weather we’ve been experiencing.

Take a look below to see what we’ve been loving this month & what we’re looking forward to – and please do share your own monthly musings with us!

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING…

We started watching Waco on Netflix & you’ll enjoy it if you love true stories, FBI or negotiation shows, or you just want to see Taylor Kitsch (aka Tim Riggins from Friday Night Lights) in a serious role that’s not the disappointment that was True Detective season two. It was on Paramount Network in 2018 but we’d never heard of it until it popped up on our Netflix homepage. The series is based on the memoirs of a survivor, David Thibodeau (played by Rory Culkin – much different from his role in Succession!) and FBI negotiator Gary Noesner (Michael Shannon). Worth a watch & it’s only six episodes!

WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO…

You may have already heard of her, but we just came across Gracie Abrams. Listening to some playlists over the past couple of weeks, we felt a connection to two songs…both of which were by Gracie Abrams. The music, the lyrics & her voice blend together beautifully. We also had no idea until we just looked her up now to write this, but she’s the daughter of JJ Abrams! Which reminds us that we still need to rewatch Lost one of these days.

We just started the podcast called 22 Hours: An American Nightmare, and so far it’s incredibly interesting! We don’t want to give away too much because we didn’t know anything about it going into it, but it breaks down the story, evidence & trial of a real-life Washington DC hostage situation turned murder. Have we mentioned that we’re fascinated by true crime stories?

WHAT WE’RE READING…

Our book club book this month is Writers & Lovers by Lily King & we’re really enjoying it so far! The story follows the protagonist, Casey, living in Massachusetts in the summer of 1997. She waits tables to pay the bills while she writes a novel she’s been working on for years and falls in love with two very different men, all while trying to maintain her creativity.

WHAT WE’RE EATING & DRINKING…

One of our editors was supposed to be in Italy for the first half of May, and so naturally, the menu has consisted of Italian food and a glass of wine or an Aperol spritz for nearly every meal. If you missed our guide to experiencing Italy from home, it’s never too late to experience the sights, sounds & taste of one of our favorite destinations.

We recently ran out of our favorite Trader Joe’s habanero hot sauce & decided to try this habanero hot sauce by Yellowbird (an Austin-based hot sauce company) in its place. While remaining perfectly spicy (we like it hot!), the hot sauce also has a great flavor since Yellowbird uses fresh fruits and veggies. They also have a ghost pepper hot sauce that we’re dying to try next.

WHAT WE’VE BEEN EYEING…

We love watching others be creative, whether it’s a time lapse video of a work of art being painted or simple at-home DIYs. Because of that, we recently started following @hellohydrangea on Instagram & we are so close to purchasing one of her weaving kits. We tend to start creative projects like this & not finish them, so if you have patience, please do it for us & let us know how it goes! The designs look as challenging as they are beautiful.

Now that the weather is warming up & pool + beach season is upon us, we’re starting our expensive swimwear window shop process by browsing pretty much all swimsuits & cover ups at Revolve. While we might splurge on a couple of pieces if we have a tropical vacation coming up, we also like to get inspired by the expensive pieces so that we can find similar less-expensive pieces elsewhere. Quality is better than quantity, but sometimes in the case of swimsuits, quantity wins. We especially love this cover-up by L*Space, this dual-tone bikini top by House of Harlow (LOVE thin straps!), and this flirty one-piece by eberjey.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO…

Though we won’t be taking any trips this month, we are excited to spend Memorial Day Weekend relaxing at home, getting some sun, and playing one of our new favorite sports: paddle tennis! Our birthday month is in June, so we’re also anxiously awaiting that big milestone!

We’d love to know what you’ve enjoyed watching, listening to, eating, drinking & what you’ve been eyeing and are looking forward to. Let us know in the comments section or send us a DM on Instagram!
