To us, it feels like a space in an old-world European home & we love that it blends vintage elements with newer pieces to feel fresh and new, yet elevated and timeless.

What Does “Cozy, Moody & Feminine” Actually Mean in a Bedroom?
To us, cozy means layered. Your bedding has texture, your lighting is warm and ambient, and there's a candle burning somewhere in the room. Everything works together to invite you in.
Moody means depth (not sad & boring). It’s not dark for the sake of being dark, but instead using contrast to create a statement, like a deep olive velvet curtain against a warm cream wall, a rich espresso dresser grounding a neutral bed, a brass picture light casting a warm glow over chinoiserie art.
Feminine means pretty, soft details. Handwoven linen pillows, framed botanical artwork, a delicate brass catchall on the nightstand.
The Signature Design Elements
Here's how we built this moodboard & how you can apply the same formula to your own bedroom:
Start with Your Anchor: The Bed
Everything in a bedroom radiates out from the bed. For this moodboard, we wanted a neutral upholstered bed in a warm linen fabric & a casual slipcovered look.
For the pillow formula, start with two to three large pillows (we went with these brown pillows), layer in two smaller pillows in a complementary pattern or texture (we used the Agnes Linen Pillow from Lulu & Georgia), and finish with a lumbar in a contrasting print for visual interest (like our go-to Lavelanet Linen Pillow).
Add in the Art
In a cozy, moody & feminine bedroom, the artwork above the bed sets the tone for the room's personality. We went with the “Linen Chinoiserie” by Laurel-Dawn Latshaw from McGee & Co., and it is stunning. Printed on raw canvas, backed with linen, and framed in a rich walnut finish, it has this quality of something you'd find in a beautiful old European home.
Add a picture light above it and suddenly the whole wall becomes a focal point since a picture light makes any artwork feel intentional and gallery-level.
The Curtains: Enter the Moody Vibes

Honest note: Velvet curtains do collect dust more than linen or other fabrics, so plan to lint roll or steam them seasonally. It’s worth it!

We layered a few different lamp styles to create a warm, ambient bedroom lighting effect.
On the nightstands, the rattan table lamp is soft, warm, and perfect for bedside reading light. On the dresser, the “Theo” lamp brings in a more ceramic, sculptural quality that mixes beautifully with the rattan.
For the nightstand itself, the “Victoria” nightstand combines storage with a built-in charging station (and hidden pull-out tray), which is one of those features you won't know how much you needed until you have it.
A Dresser to Ground the Room
A dark, rich wood dresser grounds a room in a way nothing else does, and the “Cleo” Espresso Dresser from Le Maé is stunning. White oak with an espresso finish, an arched base, drawers with soft-close glides, and tiny brass knobs make it the kind of piece you buy once and keep forever. Designer Lindye Galloway's touch is all over this piece.

The Amber Lewis x Loloi “Zuma” in Sand/Stone is warm, textural, and has the slightly worn-in quality that makes a bedroom feel lived in (even when it’s new). The sand and stone tones work beautifully on warm wood floors and under neutral bedding, and the subtle pattern adds visual interest without competing with the art or the curtains.
The Finishing Details: Where the Femininty Comes In
This is the part we love most: the small things that make a room feel collected over time. From the vintage art in the corner to the brass catchall on the nightstand to hold rings & the general accumulation of daily life, we’re all about pieces that add a bit of beauty to your life. The tortoise candle has a warm, woody scent that will make the whole room smell like the vibe it gives off, and even the round woven laundry basket proves practical can be pretty.
How to Layer the Look: Our Step-by-Step Approach
Feeling inspired but a bit overwhelmed? Here's how we'd approach this in your own bedroom:
Step 1: Start with the rug and curtains. These two pieces set the entire mood & you'll feel the shift immediately.
Step 2: Layer in your bedding next. Keep it neutral at the base (white or ivory linen duvet), so the pillows can shine.
Step 3: Bring in your nightstands and lamps. We love matching nightstands & lamps on the sides of the bed, but layer in some different wood-toned furniture & lamp styles throughout the rest of the room.
Step 4: Add the art & picture light. Keep an eye on the placement! Art hung too low is one of the most common bedroom mistakes and too high can be even worse for a space. Aim for the center of the piece to land roughly at eye level when you're standing & you should be good to go!
Step 5: Finish with the small things. The catchall & candle are the details that make people walk into a room and feel warm & cozy without even realizing why.

Multiple light sources at different heights! A floor lamp in the reading corner, table lamps on the nightstands, and a picture light above the art create a warm, layered glow that overhead lighting simply can't replicate. Warm-toned bulbs (2700K) for every fixture can make an enormous difference too!
